About the Speaker:

Mr François LUC, VP, Research & Technology Centre & Technical Director, Thales Solutions Asia

François LUC is a graduate from Ecole Normale Superieure of Paris and a PhD in Physics.

He joined Thomson Sintra ASM – now Thales Underwater Systems (TUS) - in 1993 as a researcher working on advanced underwater acoustic studies and technology demonstrators. In 2001, he moved to the Australian operations of Thales Underwater Systems, TUS Pty, as project manager for advanced geophysical systems at a time the company was rapidly growing its geophysical sensor business with the oil & gas exploration industry.

In 2004, François was appointed Engineering Director for TUS Pty and became Projects Director in 2005. In his role he has been overseeing a number of sonar projects in Australia such as the Collins submarines sonar upgrade and the Djimindi lightweight torpedo.

In September 2006, he moved back to France as Airborne Acoustic Systems Business Unit Director and was involved in major naval helicopter programs such as NH90, MH60R (ALFS) and Merlin Capability Sustainment Program.

Francois moved to Singapore in November 2009 to start-up Thales Naval Centre of Excellence for Unmanned Vehicles and has taken responsibility of Thales Technology Centre Singapore in June 2010. Following the amalgamation of all Thales operating entities in Singapore in early 2011, Francois was appointed VP R&D of Thales Solutions Asia.

Francois is a member of the technical committee of Defence Technology Asia Conference and “ancien auditeur” of Institut des Hautes Etudes pour la Science et la Technologie (IHEST).
