Singapore recently unveiled the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Plan 2020 (RIE 2020), a S$19 billion plan to support Singapore's R&D efforts over the next five years.


The funding, which will be spread over 2016 to 2020, will focus on four core technological domains in which Singapore has a competitive advantage or meet national needs. These four are advanced manufacturing and engineering; health and biomedical sciences; services and digital economy; and urban solutions and sustainability.


Mr George Loh, Director of the National Research Foundation’s Programmes Directorate, will share in details the RIE 2020 and Singapore’s Science and Technology Research Ambitions for the next four years.


This talk will be the opportunity for Tech companies and Healthcare industry players to better understand the opportunities in Singapore for the coming years.

About the Speaker:

Mr George Loh, who is director of the National Research Foundation’s Programmes Directorate, has a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Ohio State University (Columbus, Ohio) and a master’s degree in Industrial Systems Engineering from the University of Southern California (Los Angeles).

He has more than 20 years of experience in information technology, research strategy, high-tech security and systems engineering for the Ministry of Defence Singapore, the Defence Science & Technology Agency and the NRF.

As NRF Director, he is responsible to work with stakeholders to develop research opportunities with the universities and research institutes. He is also responsible for the Corporate Laboratory @ University scheme which supports the universities to conduct industry-relevant in partnership with the industry players.

Mr Loh manages programmes such as the National Cybersecurity R&D, and Virtual Singapore as well as the Corporate Laboratories in the universities to ensure the desired outcomes are achieved.
